How Hard Is It To Accept Christ

Aug. 23, 2009

Show Notes:

Harvest Crusade – Just had their 20 year event – Thousands streaming out onto the field every night to accept Christ as Savior.

Billy Graham did the same thing for 60 years! I attended many of his meetings – One in Los Angeles with over 100,000 people!
In Korea he had a crowd of over a million!!

My own quest
I was born into a Christian nation, family – Went to church from early childhood. My concept of salvation was – I sure hope my good works outweigh my bad works so God will accept me into heaven.

What the Bible itself says about how to receive the gift of eternal life

Works vs. Faith

The Law couldn’t save us

Galatians 2:15-16

16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

Galatians 3:24

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Eph 2:8-9

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Eph 2:7-10

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Become like a little child

Accept the free gift

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:1, 6-8

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2 Corinthians 5: 21

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-

Confess – Tell others

Romans 10:9-10

9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Baptism – Acts 2, etc.

True belief results in good works

Ephesians 2:10

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Titus 3:5, 8

5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

John 3:3-8

3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

What now?

So, what about you? Where are you in this journey to discover whether or not Jesus is the Savior? More importantly – Is He your savior yet?

Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

What if you die, having never made the choice to accept Him as Savior? Do you think God will overlook the fact that you had so much evidence all around you – Thousands/ even millions of people giving their lives to Christ.

Even the fact that you listened to this broadcast today. You’ve heard the truth. Now you need to seriously consider it…

So, how hard is it to become a Christian? It should be easy because Jesus has already paid the price. But, to be honest, it is still a great struggle for many people to sincerely ask Christ to forgive their sins.

There is a spiritual battle going on. They believe the lies of the Devil that it is too good to be true, or that they won’t really like the Christian way of life.

So, let me ask you. Are you ready to say “yes” to Christ? Will you invite Him into your life to forgive your sin and make you a member of the family of God? You can do it by saying a simple sincere prayer. You can use your own words. God hears your prayer. Just say something like this:

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and that I could never pay for my own sin. I understand that you died to pay for my sins, and that you offer me the gift of eternal life. Right now, the best I know how, I ask you to come into my life – be my Savior and my Lord.

Did you pray that prayer, or something like it? Then you need to tell others of your decision. That’s how you and other people will know that you are sincere. The Bible also says,

Romans 10:9-10

9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
